ServiceNow Data Catalog

ServiceNow Data Catalog receives the results of your ALTR Data Classification jobs, so the sensitive-data labels ALTR finds show up on the matching databases, tables, and columns in your ServiceNow catalog. This integration is separate from ServiceNow App, which delivers DAM Alerting notifications to the ALTR application in ServiceNow. After you connect an instance, ALTR sends the results of each database classification job that completes from then on – there is no rule or schedule to set up in ALTR.

  • Administrator or Super Administrator access to your ALTR organization.
  • A ServiceNow instance with ServiceNow Data Catalog installed, and a ServiceNow administrator able to create a service account in it.

ALTR sends classification results to your instance as a service account you create and control:

  1. In ServiceNow, create a dedicated service account user.
  2. Grant it the dc_api_public and wdf_consumer roles; see assign a role to a user.
  3. Set up the credential for the authentication method you’ll use:

ALTR uses this account only to send classification results to ServiceNow Data Catalog.

To connect an instance:

  1. Select Settings > Integrations in the navigation menu.
  2. Click the ServiceNow DCG card (ServiceNow Data Catalog), then click Add Connection.
  3. Enter a Connection name and your Instance URL, for example https://<YOUR_INSTANCE>.service-now.com.
  4. Under Enter Service Account Credentials, select Basic and enter the API user and Password, or select OAuth 2.0 and enter the Client ID and Client secret.
  5. Click Add Connection. ALTR displays “Integration created” and adds the connection to the list.

Each ServiceNow instance can have one ServiceNow Data Catalog connection in your ALTR organization. To check the connection, click Test on its row.

The connection’s row on the ServiceNow DCG page shows whether classification results are being sent:

  • Syncing classifications – ALTR sends results after each database classification job.
  • Not syncing – ALTR isn’t sending results to the connection. On an Inactive connection, switch it to Active to resume. On an active connection, a warning icon appears next to the label; open the connection and click Save Changes to restore it.

Deleting the connection stops ALTR from sending results to that instance.
