Prerequisites for Connecting Snowflake to ALTR
Complete these Snowflake prerequisites before connecting your account to ALTR.
| Prerequisite | Required/Optional | Documentation |
|---|---|---|
| Have a Snowflake account of Enterprise Edition or higher — most ALTR features on Snowflake, including masking policies, classification, and tag-based access controls, require it. | Required | Snowflake Editions |
Have the ACCOUNTADMIN role in Snowflake. This role is required to set up the ALTR connection — running ALTR’s setup stored procedure and granting ALTR access. ALTR does not need this role after setup. Learn more about the Snowflake privileges ALTR uses. | Required | Use the ACCOUNTADMIN role |
| If your Snowflake account uses network policies, allow ALTR’s IP addresses. ALTR must be able to reach Snowflake over the internet to apply and enforce policy. | Conditional | Whitelisting ALTR’s IP Addresses |
| Have at least one database in your Snowflake account. ALTR connects to a specified database and creates the schema and utility objects it needs there. | Required | Manage Snowflake Data Sources |
| Create an ALTR account. Your account may already exist — check with the ALTR team. | Required | Creating an ALTR Account |
