An administrator is a user of the ALTR platform. Every administrator is assigned one of three roles, which determines their level of access to ALTR and how their account can be managed.

  • Administrator — configures data sources, connects columns, and configures security policies; can perform most actions in ALTR.
  • Super Administrator — has the same permissions as Administrator, and additionally configures SSO, System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM), and API keys.
  • Data Consumer — cannot configure ALTR. Uses ALTR to request short-lived, policy-approved database access. See Impersonation Policy for how this access is granted.

The Data Consumer role is assignable only through SCIM provisioning. It can’t be assigned through the ALTR UI.

To add an administrator:

  1. Select Settings > Administrators in the navigation menu.
  2. Click Add New.
  3. Enter the administrator’s First Name.
  4. Enter the administrator’s Last Name.
  5. Enter the administrator’s Username. This is used to sign into ALTR. Usernames are case-sensitive; to change a username after the account is created, contact ALTR Support.
  6. Enter the administrator’s Email address. ALTR sends notifications and account operations, such as password resets, to this address.
  7. (Optional) Enter the administrator’s Phone number, used for SMS-based two-factor authentication.
  8. Select a Role: Administrator or Super Administrator.
  9. Click Add Administrator. ALTR creates the account and emails the new administrator to activate the account.

Administrator notifications, including account confirmation and password-reset emails, are sent from ALTR’s transactional email address. See Ensuring ALTR Emails Reach Your Inbox to make sure they reach an administrator’s inbox.

An administrator’s name and phone number can be updated at any time. An Administrator’s role can be changed to Super Administrator; if the role is Super Administrator, downgrading it to Administrator requires contacting ALTR Support.

To edit an administrator:

  1. Select Settings > Administrators in the navigation menu.
  2. Click the administrator to edit.
  3. Update the applicable fields.
  4. Click Update Administrator.

Deactivate an administrator’s account when they no longer need access to ALTR, or need access temporarily removed. Super Administrators can deactivate and reactivate Administrator accounts; deactivating or reactivating a Super Administrator account requires contacting ALTR Support.

To deactivate or reactivate an administrator:

  1. Select Settings > Administrators in the navigation menu.
  2. Click the administrator to open the View/Edit Administrator drawer.
  3. Click Deactivate Administrator or Reactivate Administrator.
