Default Collections
Default collections are pre-built collections of classifiers that ALTR creates and maintains, so you can classify common sensitive data types without building classifiers first. ALTR provides 6 default collections. Import any of them into your organization, run them in a classification job like any other collection, and sync them to pick up classifiers ALTR adds later.
In this section
Section titled “In this section”- ALTR Managed Regex Collection – Classifiers that match common sensitive data types with regular expressions.
- Stoplight Collection – Classifiers grouped into red, yellow, and green sensitivity tiers, each combining several detection methods for one data type.
- Secrets & Credentials Collection – Classifiers that detect API keys, private keys, and other credentials by pairing a Data Entropy condition with a structural check.
- Third-Party Default Collections – Collections built on Google DLP, Amazon Comprehend, and Snowflake Native detection.
Available Default Collections
Section titled “Available Default Collections”Each default collection appears on the Default Collections page under its on-screen name:
- ALTR Managed – see ALTR Managed Regex Collection.
- ALTR Managed - Stoplight – see Stoplight Collection.
- ALTR Managed - Secrets & Credentials – see Secrets & Credentials Collection.
- ALTR Managed - GDLP – see Google DLP.
- ALTR Managed - AWS Comprehend – see Amazon Comprehend.
- ALTR Managed - Snowflake Native – see Snowflake Native.
How Default Collections Work
Section titled “How Default Collections Work”A default collection’s classifiers are read-only. ALTR defines their rules, descriptions, and classification settings. Every default classifier’s name starts with ALTR Managed -, for example ALTR Managed - US Social Security Number. Default classifiers use a Minimum Match Threshold of 50%, which applies to their conditions that evaluate sampled values.
After you import a default collection, you can:
- Run it in a classification job like any other collection.
- Add its classifiers to your own collections.
- Duplicate the collection, then change the copy. See Duplicate a Collection.
- Duplicate one of its classifiers to make an editable copy. See Customize a Default Classifier.
You can’t delete an imported default collection, add classifiers to it, remove classifiers from it, or delete its classifiers.
Default classifiers carry tags, which appear in the Tags column of the classifier list. Use the tags to filter the classifier list.
Import a Default Collection
Section titled “Import a Default Collection”Importing a default collection adds it and its classifiers to your organization. Import one collection at a time, or all of them at once.
To import a default collection:
- Select Data Classification > Collections in the navigation menu.
- Click Default Collections in the Collections list. ALTR displays a card for each default collection, with its description and classifier count.
- (Optional) Click Preview on a card to see a sample of the collection’s classifiers before you import it.
- Click Import on the card, or Import Collection in the preview. ALTR imports the collection and marks its card Imported.
To import every default collection at once, click Import All on the Default Collections page.
Sync a Default Collection
Section titled “Sync a Default Collection”Syncing a default collection adds the classifiers ALTR has released to it since your last import or sync. Sync never changes or removes classifiers or tags that you created. When an update is available, the collection shows a sync icon in the Collections list and its Sync button is enabled.
To sync a default collection:
- Select Data Classification > Collections in the navigation menu.
- Click the collection in the Collections list, or click Default Collections to open its card.
- Click Sync. ALTR opens a dialog showing when the collection was last synced.
- In the dialog, click Sync. ALTR syncs the collection with the latest classifiers.
Customize a Default Classifier
Section titled “Customize a Default Classifier”Duplicating a default classifier creates an editable copy, which you can change and add to your own collections. The original classifier stays in its default collection.
To customize a default classifier:
- Select Data Classification > Collections in the navigation menu.
- Click the default collection in the Collections list, then click the classifier. ALTR opens it in the View Classifier panel.
- Click Duplicate to Edit. ALTR opens a new classifier with the same rules. Its name is the original name without the
ALTR Managed -prefix, followed by_COPY. - Change the name, rules, or settings.
- (Optional) Click + Add to Collection to add the classifier to one of your collections.
- Click Save. ALTR saves the classifier and adds it to the All Classifiers list.
