Review and Attestation

Review and attestation is the approval workflow applied to a generated report instance. Each audit definition sets how many approvals a report requires — zero or more — and a reviewer approves the report once any concerns are resolved.

The approval workflow is approve-only. The same user cannot approve a report twice, and any user with access to ALTRNet can review and approve a report instance.

Each approval generates a system comment, so the report retains a durable record of who approved it and when.

A report instance carries one of five statuses that reflect where it sits in the review lifecycle:

StatusMeaning
In progressReport generation underway
Needs reviewGenerated; one or more approvals still required
ApprovedAll required approvals received
Not yet generatedSchedule start date not yet reached
ErrorGeneration failed

Once a report instance receives all required approvals, ALTR produces its final attestation PDF, which adds a cover page listing the comments and approvals to the report body. This PDF is generated asynchronously after the last required review completes.

To review and attest to a report instance:

  1. Select Audit Reports in the navigation menu.
  2. Open the report instance from the audit definition’s instance list.
  3. Review the summary panel — Total Events, Unique Databases, Unique Statement Types, and Unique Users.
  4. Read the event detail table, and add any comments in the comments panel.
  5. Once your concerns are resolved, click Approve and confirm in the Confirm Approval dialog. ALTR displays “Report signed off successfully.” The instance’s status becomes Approved once all required approvals are recorded.
  6. Download the PDF or CSV from the instance menu. If this was the last required approval, the final attestation PDF may take a moment to generate — until then, the available PDF is the preliminary log-only version described in Attestation Output.
