Prerequisites for Onboarding to ALTR

For a successful enablement, ensure you have met the following prerequisites:

Prerequisite

Required/ Optional

Documentation

  1. Have a Snowflake account of Enterprise level or higher. This level is required to connect your Snowflake account to ALTR.

Required

Snowflake Editions

  1. Ensure you have the ACCOUNTADMIN role in Snowflake. This role is required to sign up for Snowflake Partner Connect and to grant access to ALTR. ALTR is not required to run as this role after setup. Learn more about the Snowflake privileges required to use ALTR.

Required

Use the ACCOUNTADMIN role

  1. Create network policies to whitelist ALTR's IP addresses. ALTR must be able to communicate with Snowflake over the internet in order to apply and enforce data security policies.

Required

Snowflake Network Policies

  1. Have at least 1 database in your Snowflake account.

    This database

    • must be permanent (i.e., not transient)

    • must not be read-only or shared

    • can be a sandbox/test or a production environment

    • should contain 1 or more tables with data that can be monitored, governed, tagged, etc. in order to demonstrate ALTR’s functionality. It is recommended to use data that mimics your production data / use cases.

Required

Connect Data Sources

  1. Create and set up an ALTR account. Check with the ALTR team because your account may have already been set up.

Required

Create and Set Up and ALTR Account

  1. Have admin privileges to third-party integration tools. This is only required if you integrate with third-party tools.

Optional

  1. Determine which method you will use to classify your data: Snowflake or Google DLP. If you are concerned about resource usage and speed, Google DLP may be the best option; but if your data cannot leave your Snowflake instance, then Snowflake Native is the better choice.

Optional

Sensitive Data Discovery
