Introducing the New User Interface for Policy
Managing policies in ALTR has been streamlined and improved to prove a more intuitive and user-friendly experience.
At ALTR we are always listening to our customers. As a follow-up to user feedback, we have streamlined the process to create and maintain policy by combining areas of the user interface to quickly create, edit and delete policy in one location.
With this change
All policy types can be viewed in one location under the new Policy menu.
Alerts are created directly on a policy.
The concept of thresholds has been folded into the redesigned alert functionality, so you can block a user after a certain number of returned values in a given time period.
The concept of locks no longer exists; you restrict access to the tag or column directly in the policy.
Note
If you have any policy customizations, please contact ALTR Support. We may need to make changes to your organization to support the updates to policy.
We are rolling out this change per client, enabling certain users to get earlier access to the policy updates. You will be notified ahead of time and directly before the roll out so you can plan accordingly.
The new user interface for policy will roll out for all clients between February 14, 2025 and April 14, 2025.
Change | Benefit |
---|---|
Consolidated view of all policy types (row access, tag-based masking and column-based masking) under a new menu called Policy | Removing the separation of policy types makes it easier to find the policy type you want to set up and provides a consistent look and feel when creating policy. |
Built-in onboarding to create policy | Reduces confusion when creating policy by walking you through each step of the process. |
Policy pages vary by policy type | Each policy type has its own set of fields to include only the information needed. |
Removed the Locks page and tied the functionality directly to policy | Streamlines the policy creation process and eases confusion about what exactly a “lock” is. |
Removed the Thresholds page and tied alerts directly to policy | Streamlines the process to set up alerts when a threshold is triggered by folding the threshold functionality into the policy creation flow instead of having to create a threshold on a separate page. |
Restated rule statements to be more readable | Ability to see policy rules as a user-friendly, readable sentence. |
We will handle the migration of your data so there’s nothing for you to do! Your policy will continue to protect your data through the migration without any interruptions. However, while the migration is taking place, which will take about 2 hours, you won’t be able to make changes to your policies. We will clearly communicate ahead of time when the migration will start and once it has completed.
No - the ALTR team will handle the migration.
Yes - your policy will be protecting your data without interruptions.
No - all functionality you are familiar with will remain and all of your policies will be migrated to the new look and feel. We are purely changing the user experience of creating and managing policies.
